What is Premium Acid
Premium acid is a product which is based on a synergetic combination of non-buffered organic acids such as formic acid, lactic acid, acetic acid, propionic acid and sorbic acid. In addition, Premium acid contains trace elements in forms of copper-sulfates and zinc-chelates and the prebiotic oligofructosesirup. The product is suitable for administering via the drinking water and liquid feed of production animals.
The effect of organic acids and trace minerals
Several studies have shown that organic acids such as formic acid and propionic acid have a positive influence on growth performance of pigs. In poultry, organic acids have made a great contribution to the profitability in production by affecting performance as well. The reduction of the gastrointestinal (GI) pH leads to increased gastric protein and amino acid digestibility. Lactic acid in particular has also a growth promoting effect on positive bacteria within the intestine, such as Lactobacillus. Premium Acid contains furthermore oligofructosesirup, which is a prebiotic, in order to enhance the growth of positive bacteria even more. The antimicrobial action of organic acids takes place in both the water and in the GI-tract of the animal. Copper and zinc both play an important role in diverse body processes. The combination of zinc-chelates and copper-sulfates ensures on the one hand a better uptake of zinc to support (intestinal) cell and tissue development. On the other hand, uptake of copper sulfates decreases which makes them able to express their antimicrobial properties at the site of action: the intestine.
When to use Premium Acid
Premium Acid is successfully used for a good intestinal function during the starter period, after vaccinations and during other stressful situations of the rearing period. In addition Premium Acid is successfully used to prevent certain Gram negative bacteria during swine production and to improve technical results of fattening pigs.
